The County seat of Loudoun County, Leesburg VA lies at a crossroads of a very wide variety of housing styles, types and prices. The colonial era town claims visits by most of America's founding fathers yet is more closely identified as a southern border town during the US Civil war.

The town's largest battle occurred at Balls Bluff which is now a public park fronting the Potomac River. 19th century plantation wealth morphed into late 20th century internet wealth in the rural areas surrounding Leesburg’s west and northern hills.

Large luxury homes predominate rural housing types due to land use controls and ongoing wealth generation in Washington DC and the nearby Dulles Technology Corridor. Land use emphasis on low density has expanded rural agri-tainment businesses, wineries, and organic farms which offer various estate options.

The Town of Leesburg's housing is similar to bands of a tree. Colonial stone structures mix with red brick civil war era buildings including the historic courthouse in the Old Town area.

Adjacent, neighborhoods of mid century brick ramblers, split levels and townhouses were built during the 1950s and 1960s housing boom. The 1980s brought aluminum siding to the north side with larger planned communities of detached and entry level townhouses in neo colonial and federal styles.

Mid 1990s arrival of the Dulles Greenway expressway, an extension of the Dulles Toll Road, brought vehicular traffic from DC/Arlington, Reston and Dulles airport and boosted interest in Leesburg as a suburban destination.

The 1990s-2000s expanded Leesburg to the southwest with homes continuing in the neo colonial style but with more brick exteriors as all Dulles area housing trended upscale into the mid 2000s. Emphasis on new garaged townhouse construction continues.

Development of the upscale Leesburg Outlet Mall and new luxury country clubs on Leesburg’s east side physically joined the town to neighboring Ashburn and to the greater Washington DC metropolitan area.
